The Benjamin Quaye Memorial Endowment for Social Justice
A fundraising effort to create a permanent endowment in Ben's name
Our Goal
This year will mark the sixth anniversary of Ben's passing. He is missed terribly and his sudden loss is still incredibly painful. To remember him and to contribute to his legacy, our family has established the Benjamin Quaye Memorial Endowment for Social Justice at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
At the time of his death, Ben had become interested in social change. We believe that he would have followed his heart into social work. This endowment will benefit deserving UCSC students who share Ben's ideals and passions by providing financial assistance in support of their educational dreams. Ben Quaye's best qualities are alive in everyone he met, befriended, and loved. The goal of this crowdfunding effort is to pass along those wonderful qualities and embolden talented students who follow in Ben's footsteps at UCSC. Establishing this permanent endowment in Benjamin’s name is the most fitting way to remember him, and to ensure his ideals and principles continue for generations to come. Contributions in his memory will aid other young, passionate, idealists to advance important conversations of policy, social equity, and justice.
In order to establish an endowment at UCSC, we must raise an initial amount of $30,000 as a community. The endowment payout will be used primarily to support undergraduate students with financial need who are studying social work or social justice, with a strong preference for students who are the first-in-family to attend college. Like Benjamin, students who are serving in the community will be ideal recipients.
THANK YOU for any contribution that you can make. Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to honoring Ben, helping other students, and celebrating this wonderful gift with each of you.

Proposed Site of a Memorial Bench
In addition to providing financial aid, a portion of the gift funds will be used to construct a bench in Ben's memory. With the university's help, we have identified a beautiful site overlooking the entire Monterrey Bay near the East Athletic Fields, where Ben played Rugby. It offers some of the most spectacular views on campus and perhaps the entire county of Santa Cruz. There is a picture below taken at the memorial site location. It sits on a well-traveled pathway and is a great place to pause, relax, and reflect.
